So i've decided to split the collection post into two, way too many pics and you'd probably end up sitting on your computer waiting for them to load. Let's start with pics of some of my favourite moments from the menswear. I think it's fair to say that although things are slowly changing menswear often gets brushed with the "safe" brush, so I am always excited to see what young designers bring to the table in this type of design competition, a competition that allows for so much innovation and experimentation. I must say I saw so much stuff that I absolutely loved. the designers put work into the ranges and well done to them all. Without fail this competition is always inspiring.
By the way, the most of the prizes went to the womenswear designers, so you're in for quite a treat when I post the pics of those ranges tomorrow. AND THIS LAST RANGE WAS NOT PART OF THE COMPETITION, IT WAS A PRESENTATION BY LAST YEAR'S WINNERS, THE FINNISH COLLECTIVE, ELINA LAITINEN, SIIRI RAASAKKA & TIIA SIRÉN, TITLED "THE VOICE OF THE UNHEARD. I GOT SO MUCH LOVE FOR THEIR WORK, THERE ARE SO MANY INTERESTING ELEMENTS IN THEIR RANGE THAT COME TOGETHER JUST SO.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS, "This collection is inspired by the London riots, ceremonial African voodoo costumes and Finno-Ugric handcraft techniques. Our materials are an integral part of our collection so we created some of our fabrics from scratch. The collection includes some of our own woven fabrics, crochet work, knits and embroideries inspired by Finnish handcraft. We have also used a fabric that is originally employed in Finnish folk costumes and is still made in Finland. It is important for us to introduce luxurious fabrics to young people, in an interesting way. This collection is for boys who are courageous and not afraid to express themselves. These garments are for those who are ready for the barricades."
